Health Insurance Payment Assistance

The Maryland AIDS Administration offers two programs that help pay for the cost of health insurance for people with HIV or AIDS. The programs are:

1. Maryland AIDS Insurance Assistance Program (MAIAP) is a state funded program that helps pay for the cost of health insurance premiums. Assistance in paying health insurance premiums under COBRA or other insurance continuation policies, "Medi-gap" plans (private health insurance which supplements Medicare), or other group or individual health insurance may also be offered.

To qualify for MAIAP you must:

  • meet certain income and asset requirements
  • be enrolled in a health insurance plan
  • be unable to work due to HIV infection

2. MADAP-Plus is a federally funded program that helps pay the cost of health insurance premiums for those people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) who are eligible for MADAP.

To qualify for MADAP-Plus you must:

  • be HIV positive
  • meet certain income requirements
  • be responsible for paying 50% or more of your monthly health insurance premiums out of pocket
