Partner Counseling & Referral Services (PCRS)
In an effort to reduce the rate of new HIV infections by 50%, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) emphasizes the importance of Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) in identifying individuals at high risk for HIV infection.
The goal of Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) is to interrupt disease transmission by helping HIV-infected persons to notify their sex and/or needle-sharing partners. Informing partners at high risk about their exposure to and possible infection with HIV enables them to make decisions about behavior, testing and health care. In addition, PCRS aims to help partners gain earlier access to individualized counseling, HIV testing, medical evaluation, treatment, and other prevention services.
